Ancient Music in an Old Apple Orchard: From the Baltics to Bengal
Last minute: We’re hosting a concert in our orchard in Greensboro this Sunday (October 9) at 2 pm! Our friends Vaiva Aglinskas and Pavritha Mehta will sing sutartines-- trance-inducing ancient ritual Lithuainian rounds, with odd rhythms and gorgeous dissonant harmonies—and other songs from the Baltic and Slavic traditions, and Pavritha will perform songs from the Baul tradition in West Bengal. Pavritha has been living in West Bengal for the last year, studying this ancient mystic tradition of music and storytelling. Farm Song, a local group of farmers, carpenters, and teachers who love to sing, will also perform a few songs from Corsica, Georgia, and Britain.
The concert will take place in the old farmstead apple orchard, under hundred year old heirloom apple trees trees loaded with fruit. We’ll also be open for organic apple pick your own, and be giving a farm and orchard tour at 1 pm. Free hot cider after the concert. Bring a blanket to sit on!
