Vermont College of Fine Arts is hosting a special red carpet premiere and charity event celebrating the release of the new Lionsgate film, The Great Gilly Hopkins. On Friday, Oct. 7 at the Stowe Cinema 3Plex in Stowe, Vt., VCFA will debut this film based on beloved author and VCFA Trustee Katherine Paterson’s 1979 National Book Award-winning novel. To learn more or purchase tickets go to http://www.gmunitedway.org/event/great-gilly-hopkins/.
The evening will also include a panel featuring Katherine Paterson and her sons, screenwriter and producer David L. Paterson, and producer John Paterson. M.T. Anderson—a VCFA Trustee and National Book Award winner—will moderate the panel, which will also include representatives from Vermont’s foster care system.
There will be a 4 p.m. screening for families and children at $10 per ticket.
Doors for the evening show will open at 7 p.m. with the guest panel and film premiere to follow. This showing will be $30 per ticket with a complimentary glass of wine. Bear Pond Books of Stowe will be selling copies of the book and Katherine will be signing after both showings.
For more information, to purchase tickets or to purchase raffle tickets for a chance to win a Family 4-pack of tickets, a signed copy of the book and to meet the author go to http://www.gmunitedway.org/event/great-gilly-hopkins.
We are pleased to announce that, thanks to the generosity of VCFA, all proceeds from the event will go to benefit Tatum’s Totes, an organization partnering with Green Mountain United Way to support foster children in transition. The film, about a girl who gets shuffled from foster family to foster family, opens nationally on this date and the Stowe event is the film’s only red carpet premiere in Vermont.
