Peru, VT, Artist Featured at Canfield Gallery in October
“Among the Rolling Hills” featuring multimedia works by David Utiger of Peru, VT, can be seen at the Canfield Gallery at the Martha Canfield Library in Arlington during library hours from October 1 until November 2. The artist will host a reception at the gallery this Saturday, October 1, from 3 to 5.
Utiger’s work is well deserving of his wide exposure and acclaim. His paintings are carefully composed of pencil, watercolor paint, colored ink and white opaque ink, and are evocative of northern New England landscapes, though not representative. These ethereal, almost spiritual paintings call forth that particular light that is a result of the particular location of the sun in this part of the world. For someone whose relatives have lived in the same Vermont town for about two hundred years, it is not surprising that Utiger has captured the essence of the light here, as well as the inhabitants’ deep-seated reverence for this landscape.
“Among the Rolling Hills” can be seen at the Canfield Gallery at the Martha Canfield Library on Tuesday and Thursday from 9 to 8, Wednesday 9 to 5, Friday 2 to 6, and Saturday 10 to 3. For more information, call the library at 802-375-6153 or visit the library’s website at marthacanfieldlibrary.org.
