The Town of Moretown is voting on Tuesday November 5, 2014 on the project to construct a new Town Office. Moretown has been working on this through a dedicated group of volunteers and concerned residents since December of 2011. The town was also successful in applying for a grant which will offset a very significant portion of the estimated $865,000.00 construction cost. The grant awarded was for $700,000.00. Insurance and other monies being used means that the town is planning to use $40,000.00 of short term borrowing for the project. If, of course, the vote is "yes" on November 5th.
On Tuesday October 29th at 7:00 P.M. in the Moretown Town Hall there is an informational meeting about the project. Moretown residents are encouraged to attend! The informational meeting agenda calls for a presentation about the building project, a short history about how we arrived at an office design, the influence on taxes represented by the project and a question, comment and answer period. The $700,000.00 grant coming through the Vermont Department of Housing and Community Development is indeed very important for this project to move forward. The U.S Government's Housing and Urban Department is the resource for this grant. It is the source, in fact, of money available to many communities effected by TS Irene. Therefore it is important to remember that while Moretown is getting a very significant boost for our project, our own tax monies are also helping other committees recover and move on from the TS Irene disaster. We all are sharing in the recovery and the resources set aside for this work.
