“They say the neon lights are bright on Broadway” -- but this October 6th-15th, they’ll be shining on Burlington’s waterfront! Girls Nite Out Productions is bringing Broadway’s beloved rock ‘n’ roll musical revue, Smokey Joe’s Cafe: The Songs of Leiber & Stoller, to Burlington’s own Main Street Landing Black Box Theatre.
Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Famers Jerry Leiber & Mike Stoller wrote hit songs for music legends like Elvis Presley, The Drifters, Ben E. King, and Peggy Lee. You may not know this prolific songwriting team by name, but you can certainly name their tunes: “On Broadway,” “Jailhouse Rock,” “Stand By Me,” “Hound Dog,” “Poison Ivy,” and many more hits that have shaped music as we know it. This 1995 Tony-nominated musical artfully ties their hit songs together in a moving musical tribute that takes its audience back to the Age of Vinyl through song and dance.
Andrea Cronan (director of Lyric Theatre’s Legally Blonde) directs a brilliant cast of some of Vermont’s best crooners and movers, including Burlington’s Vanessa Ament. With sensational choreography by Burlington residents Rebecca Raskin and Jane Burchard and nearly 40 timeless tunes, you will want to dance in the aisles and try not to sing!
A number of iconic Burlington businesses are show sponsors, for which GNOP is deeply grateful: Leunig’s Bistro & Cafe, Nedde Real Estate, Pizzeria Verita, Montgomery & Merrill, Dr. Laura Ramirez, and August First Bakery & Cafe.
Smokey Joe’s Cafe will run at Main Street Landing’s Black Box Theater from October 6th-15th. Get your tickets online today at Flynntix.org or go to the FlynnTix Box Office on Main Street in Burlington.
