The Stowe Free Library’s 150th Anniversary celebration is culminating with a “Meet the Authors” event on Saturday, September 24th at 3pm. This event will feature a panel of four local authors: Reeve Lindbergh, Ellen Stimson, Willem Lange, and Julia Shipley, who will discuss the important role of books and libraries. Our event moderator, Jessamyn West, will then challenge the authors with a few lightning round questions. There will be an opportunity for audience participation, as well as books available for signing and light refreshments.

Jessamyn West, moderator of the event, is a librarian by trade in rural Vermont. She is known for her writing and presenting on the digital divide, technology, and library topics, as well as her work on legislation that affects library services.

Ellen Stimson is the author of three books. Her first book, “Mud Season,” was a memoir about uprooting her family from St. Louis to Vermont and opening a country store. Her humor shines through in all her books.

Willem Lange is a New York native, but currently resides in Montpelier. Willem has written assorted children’s books as well as a weekly column, “Yankee Notebook”. He also has an audio CD, “Not Love at First Sight”, a collection of his tales.

Julia Shipley is an independent journalist and author of essays, poems and books. Her work can be found in Taproot, Orion Magazine, Green Mountains Review and many more. Her book, “Adam’s Mark,” was named Best Book of 2014 by the Boston Globe. Her debut collection of poems, “Academy of Hay,” won the 2014 Melissa Lanitis Gregory Poetry Prize.

Reeve Lindbergh has written several novels, children’s books, and nonfiction books. She lives on a farm in Vermont and raises chickens and sheep. Her most recent adult book, “Forward From Here: leaving middle age- and other unexpected adventures,” tells of the delights she finds in growing older. Reeve is the daughter of the author, Anne Morrow Lindbergh.

Please join us for this final gathering to celebrate our 150th Anniversary! We have been thrilled with all the love and support that our patrons and community members have shown us throughout the summer at each of our events. You, our Stowe Patrons and community members, are what keep the library going and your support means so much to the staff at the library!
