Preview of September 19 City Council Meeting

Past event
Sep 19, 2016, 5 to 7 PM

Dear Neighbors,

This coming Monday, the City Council will convene its second of three meetings for the month of September. Please note that our schedule is a departure from our usual agenda and location.

At 5pm, the Council will convene a public hearing for the Charter changes to clarify uses of parking garage and meter revenues in Conference Room 12 downstars in City Hall. The Board of Finance meeting will begin immediately after this public hearing and will end by 6:30.
Due to the fact that this meeting is a special meeting and was on the formal calendar approved in April, there is an event in Contois Auditorium Monday evening. For this reason, the Council meeting will be held at the Burlington Police Department Community Room at 1 North Avenue. The meeting will begin at 7pm.

The first item on our agenda is a discussion of the 10 Year Capital Plan. We have had two work sessions and several discussions on this important plan that will address not only our capital needs but will put into place a plan for maintaining our assets over time. It is also important to note that the revenues to fund the plan will be shared by the "users" of our public assets, including visitors to Burlington, our local institutional partners as well as property taxpayers and local businesses.

We have four resolutions on our agenda. One is to authorize a ballot question on the November ballot regarding revenue bonds for water system improvements. The second resolution is regarding a question on the November ballot for the issuance of a General Obligation bond for capital improvements.

The third resolution is an update to establish of new Vehicle for Hire business license and other related fees for the current fiscal year. Our last resolution is a update to authorize the City to enter into an Memorandum of Understanding with Uber regarding the terms of the audit procedures persuant to the Vehicle for Hire Ordinance.

As with all Council meetings, please keep in mind that you are always welcome to come and speak to the Council on any subject you wish during our Public Forum which begins at 7:30pm. Clickable agenda items can be found on the City's website via board docs at: http://www.boarddocs.com/vt/burlingtonvt/Board.nsf/Public All Council meetings are televised live on BT Channel 317 and streamed live to your computer or phone.

As always, I welcome your questions and concerns. Please be in touch over the weekend and on Monday. I hope you have a great weekend.

My best,
Karen
