Past event
Sep 10, 2016, 7 to 9 PM

Tony Nominee and GAAR Artist-in-Residence Marla Schaffel stars as "Emily Dickinson" in a staged reading of William Luce's The Belle of Amherst. This one woman play, filled with the words of the renowned poet, is directed by GAAR Producing Artistic Director Sabra Jones. Acclaimed violinist Alexander Romanul and cellist Cynthia Rhodes perform selections of Aaron Copland's "Twelve Poems by Emily Dickinson." Based on the life of poet Emily Dickinson from 1830 to 1886, and set in her Amherst, Massachusetts home, the 1976 play makes use of her work, diaries, and letters to recollect her encounters with the significant people in her life – family, close friends, and acquaintances. A wonderful piece for all ages!
