The Stowe Yacht Club is hosting the National Championship for Soling RC Sailing. This Friday- Sunday, Sept 9-11th, 10 am to 4 pm at the Commodore Inn's pond on Rte. 100 just south of Stowe. Skippers are coming from as far away as FL, PA, CA, Ontario, Quebec, & Nova Scotia.
Each race set consists of 3 heats with the best of the C heat moving up to race in the B heat and the best of that heat move up to the A heat (and the slowest of the A heat then moving down to the B & C heat. Races take about 15-20 minutes and run all day. All races are run under the International rules of Sail boat racing and usually entail a tack to a windward mark, downwind run and back to finish at the windward mark.
Boats are 39" long with mast height of about 4 ft. Class is one design so all boats are essentially the same which puts pressure on the skipper.
Come on over to watch. The back porch of the Inn is a great place to watch the racing. More info is available on stoweyachtclub.com
