Red Cross Blood Drive at TVSC Tuesday

Past event
Sep 6, 2016, 10 AM to 3 PM

There is a blood drive at Twin Valley Senior Center, 4583 US Route 2 in East Montpelier, on Tuesday Sep 6, from 10-3. When I was signing up for an appointment, I noticed that they have a LOT of available slots, which means not many people have signed up. The Red Cross is constantly going around pleading for people to donate blood, as the number of donors is just barely enough to meet needs. Nationwide, someone needs a unit of blood every 2 to 3 seconds, and most of us will need blood in our lifetime.

Please consider donating at this drive--for most people, it's easy and takes less than an hour, including all the paperwork and the donation itself. There is no way for hospitals to have blood for people in need except by kind human beings donating their blood with the knowledge that it will help save the life of someone they've never met--there's no such thing as artificial blood! I actually have a challenging time donating blood, due to fairly wimpy veins, but I still go every 8 weeks, because I think it's one of the most important things a person can do.

If you're healthy right now, please consider giving this precious gift while the Red Cross team is in our area. Don't wait for a natural disaster! Walk ins are welcome, or for an appointment call 1 800 REDCROSS or go online to redcrossblood.org. Drink lots of water the day before and day of your donation, and eat well beforehand to help your body's reserves! If this day/time doesn't work for you, you can search for other drives on the Red Cross website. (If you're new to donating, the Red Cross probably has answers to all your questions on their site, or you can feel free to email me if that's a help in any way, for a frequent donor's perspective!)
