"Skate Park Grand Re-Opening:

The Newport Skate Park was recently demolished and rebuilt, bigger and better than before. Join us as we celebrate the re-opening of the Newport Skate Park located just off the Western Avenue sidewalk. Food, vendors, skateboarding, music, and more. Saturday October 12 at 12pm." (from the Newport Recreation Dept. website.)

We are spreading the word about the fun coming up this Saturday at Gardner Park. The new Park was designed by our own RICHIE BOWEN (SkatePark Committee Member since Forever), whose design career will grab major air after this new Park opens.

To get there, go through downtown Newport on Main St. Stay on Routes 5/105 across the causeway, then turn Right onto Gardner Park Road. The Skatepark is in Gardner Park. Everything is free, but helmets are required to skate or bike.

Richie recently designed what we hope will be our first concrete feature in Johnson; we call it the Horseshoe Bowl. If we get a state Recreation Facilities grant (and others), it'll get built next summer. Stay tuned!
