Food for Thought: Fermentation with the Flacks

Past event
Sep 8, 2016, 6 to 7 PM

Food for Thought is a new monthly program Bent Northrop Memorial Library will be offering that will focus on food... Yum!

Join us on Thursday, Sept. 8th, at 6pm, for a session with the Flacks to learn how to ferment vegetables. Flack Family Farm makes fermented vegetables from cabbage and other garden vegetables in small lots by the barrel. Fermented foods show up in virtually all cultures of the world and are an essential part of a complete diet. During this workshop, Doug and Bobbie Flack will go over basics of fermenting vegetables including the amount of salt to use, the length of time needed, fermenting conditions such as temperature and ph, health benefits and more.

Bring your own vegetables, a half gallon wide mouth jar (one can also be purchased at the workshop for $2.50), a cutting board, and a large knife for cutting vegetables. Salt will be provided.
