The Friends of the Stowe Free Library Presents: Vermont Author Susan Clark with a FREE TALK on “Slow Democracy”

Thursday, September 15th from 7-8 p.m. Book Signing – Light Refreshments to follow.

Town Meeting attendance is at an all time low. Local and National political decisions feel out of our control. How can you make a difference? In "Slow Democracy" , author Susan Clark describes how citizens around the country are breathing new life into their communities. Along with real-life examples of slow democracy in action, with an emphasis on civil discourse, Clark provides simple guidelines to reinvigorate local democracy. With a future more and more focused on local food, local energy, and local economies, Slow Democracy offers strategies to improve our skills at local governance and to reinvigorate community democracy. Drop the political labels, suspend what is happening in the national media and join the open discussion about how we can begin involvement in the political process from the ground up in our own backyard.

Susan Clark is a writer and facilitator focusing on community sustainability and citizen participation, and an award-winning radio commentator and former talk-show co-host. She is coauthor of All Those In Favor: Rediscovering the Secrets of Town Meeting and Community.

The Community Room of the Stowe Free Library is accessed from the rear of the building, with parking in the Elementary School lot. For further information, contact the Stowe Free Library at 253-6145.
