Federal Communications Commission rules make it difficult for a station to run a program hosted by a candidate in a contested race, which is why I turned to Vic Guadagno to host Relocalizing Vermont after I declared myself a candidate for state representative.
I want to thank Vic for the great job he did of producing his version of Relocalizing Vermont. He's taking on new projects and is no longer available to guest host.
As I'm continuing on to the November election as a Progressive candidate, I have worked with WGDR management to find programming that fits the spirit of Relocalizing Vermont. We've identified nationally syndicated programming that I think long-time listeners of my show will enjoy. Starting this week, Thursday mornings 9:00 – 10:30 am at WGDR Plainfield 91.1 FM and WGDH Hardwick 91.7 FM will feature the following programs:
9:00 am Food Sleuth Radio, where host Melinda Hemmelgarn helps listeners think beyond the plate.
9:30 am Conversation Earth, with Dave Gardner and guests exploring our place on the planet.
10:00 am Rootstock Radio, on which Theresa Marquez talks to leaders from the good food movement about food, farming, and our global future. The program is produced by Organic Valley, a farmer cooperative.
This week's topics include how to discern whether your meat is 100% grassfed and other food labeling questions (Food Sleuth Radio), Bill McKibben on relocalizing as a strategy for responding to climate change (Conversation Earth), and the power of the Farm to School movement (Rootstock Radio).
I don't plan to post more on the topics of these shows for the duration of their run, but I certainly encourage you to tune in Thursday mornings (or stream them at wgdr.org). As always, if you miss the programs when they run, you have up to two weeks to stream them at wgdr.org/on-demand
