Calais Founders Day Sunday, Sept. 11

Past event
Sep 11, 2016

There will be a Calais Founders Day celebration, with Ted Wheelock, on Sunday, Sept. 11. Ted will be visiting from Ca., and is a descendant of Abijah Wheelock, the first (permanent) settler of Calais. He and I have been corresponding, via FB, for the past several months, and discussing this (pending) event, We are doing this in an attempt to revive a tradition of the past-being the Annual Wheelock Picnic. You do not have to be a descendant to attend. There aren't many of us left, and still living here. It will probably be a potluck picnic at the Calais Town Hall. I will share more details with you as the date nears, but we hope to include a tour to the Wheelock Monument in Kents Corner for those interested. Please help spread the word with others.

Also-the Calais and East Montpelier Historical Societies will hold the monthly meeting on Monday, Sept. 12 at the Calais Town Hall, which will be a potluck, and Ted will give a presentation of his "collection" of Calais history.

Gail Graham Pres. Calais Historical Society, and a Wheelock descendant, as well as Erlene Leonard 223-5814
