The Middlebury Community Players will hold auditions for their fall musical, THE FANTASTICKS, on Monday, August 29, and Wednesday, August 31, 2016. If callbacks are necessary, they will be held on Thursday, September 1. All auditions will start at 7:00pm at the Town Hall Theater, 68 S. Pleasant Street, Middlebury 05753. Please come prepared to sing and move. The libretto is available for perusal at the Town Hall Theater box office (Monday-Saturday, noon to 5:00pm, 802-382-9222).
Shows will be November 3-6, 2016, at Town Hall Theater. There are approximately 250 new productions of THE FANTASTICKS every year yet, surprisingly, this is the first time the Players have staged it. Producer Todd Gordon, director Kevin Commins, and music director Michael McCord are excited to bring this wonderful show to Middlebury at long last.
THE FANTASTICKS was the longest running musical in American history. When it opened in the Sullivan Street Theater in 1960, nobody would have predicted that it would still be playing there in 2002! Its delightful story of romance, comedy, illusion, magic, and the bittersweet lessons of life has proved irresistible to generations of theatergoers.
Much of the show’s appeal lies in its score, one of the finest ever written for a musical. “Try to Remember” is the standout song, but songs like “Soon It’s Going to Rain” and “They Were You” have become standards as well.
