9th Annual PAT O’HAGAN MEMORIAL FIDDLERS’CONTEST
On Labor Day, Monday, September 5th, Sheffield Field Day will be hosting its annual Fiddlers’ Contest in the Gym at Miller’s Run School --3249 Vt. Rt. 122-- at 2:00 pm. Registration for fiddlers will begin at 1:30.
The contest is free and open to all ages, with competitive categories for Youngsters (under 12); Juniors (12-17); Adults (18-59); Seniors (60-79); and Super Seniors (over 80.) The prize money for first and second place winners is: Youngsters ($40/$25), Juniors ($100/$70), Adults, Seniors and Super Seniors ($200/$150).
Participants are asked to perform three pieces: a waltz (a tune in 3/4 time), a hoedown (reel or hornpipe), and a tune of their choice, (eg. a jig or strathspey.)
Since its early years, the contest has been a beloved and popular event at Sheffield Field Day.
