One mile east of VT route 30 (40 minutes south of Middlebury), on route 4A in Castleton is a Vermont gem: a Colonial village complete with a classic town green; nothing Disney-phony about it, this is an authentic New England treasure. For 78 years, since the late-1930s, the best early American buildings in Castleton have opened their distinguished interiors one-day-per-year for a ticketed tour. Tickets are a bargain at $20 for adults and $18 for guests age 62 and above.
