What would you do if you experienced a career-altering emergency? What if your community experienced a flood, fire, or some other natural disaster? CERF+ The Artist Safety Net is a national nonprofit organization in Montpelier that helps artists get ready for emergencies and back on their feet after disasters. This includes emergency grants and loans, information about emergency readiness and resources for help during and after a disaster.

The American Red Cross and CERF+ are collaborating to host a training session for working artists of all disciplines who are involved or active in their communities. You'll learn about the emergency response process and brainstorm how artists could serve as emergency responders by leveraging existing community relationships to aid in their recovery. You'll also get to know CERF+ by registering for this session.

The 3-hour training and focus group will meet at the Vermont Arts Council Wednesday, September 7 from 1 to 4 pm. Working artists of all disciplines who have experience working in local communities - as artists or activists - and who want to explore how to assist communities recovering from a disaster are encouraged to contact jenifer@craftemergency.org if you would like to attend.

$50 stipends are available by request.
