Food Too Good to Waste Activities at West River Farmers' Market

Past event
Aug 27, 2016, 9 AM to 1 PM

Join the Londonderry Solid Waste Group and the Northeast Recycling Council at the West River Farmers Market on Saturday, August 27, from 9am – 1 pm for Wasted Food Awareness Day.

To promote greater awareness about wasted food reduction, recovery, and composting, the day’s activities will include a compost display and literature about wasted food reduction. Children’s activities will also take place, including making “compost blasts” with donated compost from TAM Organics for children to take home and plant. Children will also be invited to color “Eat Me First” signs that can be taken home to put on a small box for placement in the refrigerator. Items close to expiration can then be put in the box so that family members know to eat them soon. “Ask a Compost Expert” will be present; an opportunity for people to ask questions about composting food scraps and other food waste reduction ideas.
