Come Celebrate Together
In good spirits, come one and all to celebrate East Poultney Day "weather..." there may be rain or shineshine , this day will be really fun. It is a celebration of historic Poultney in community, lets come together!
The Poultney Historical Society will hold the 81st annual East Poultney Day on Saturday, August 13, 2016, from 9am to 4pm on the East Poultney green, highlighting the theme Democracy in Poultney. Our featured speaker is Susan Clark at 12:30pm, author of the book Slow Democracy, who has focused her career on reinvigorating community democracy. Expect to hear much more music this year in the main events tent in the center of the green featuring Extra Stout; Ben Grosscup of People’s Music Network, and Poultney’s own string band, Spruce Knob Uprising. Re-experience the past on the green with exhibits and demonstrations of traditional skills throughout the day including woodworking on a replica shaving horse workbench (also available as a raffle prize), wool spinning, loading and firing of a Civil War era historic musket, and old-fashioned silhouette portrait-making by flashlight or candlelight in the United Baptist Church. Additionally, a nearly completed tiny house will be temporarily re-located on the green for the day, and celebrated local artist Peter Huntoon will paint one of his signature Vermont scenes before visitors ‘ very eyes.
