Act 46, for those of you who may not know, is a new Vermont Law governing school consolidation. The Law is intended, by reducing the number of school districts, to provide more educational programs for children in schools where they might not now exist. It is also in intended to lower operating costs for education in the State and thereby help to reduce property taxes. The WSESU Study Committee will share their plans at this meeting, about holding a town vote in November to see if Dummerston( and the other member towns of Putney, Guilford, and Brattleboro) would agree to give up control of their local schools. Many of us do not think this is a good idea and that the Study Committee should hit the 'pause' button and step back for a fuller discussion of other possible options. Vernon is voting today on whether or not to withdraw from the BUHS district to avoid consolidation and maintain their School Choice option. Please come and share your thoughts. If a vote for consolidation was to take place...that would be the end of our local school as we have known it. It's an important topic and it needs your input. Thank you. Richard Virkstis
