FAMILY FORESTRY 101: Small Woodlot Rewilding and Cropping

Location: New Haven Town Hall and Little Hogback Community Forest in Monkton

In this free, one-day introductory workshop, you’ll learn how to work in the forest in ways that conserve and improve forest ecosystem health, wildlife habitat, water quality, and flood resilience while harvesting maple sap and firewood. Come join us!

In this full-day session, you’ll learn about:
- Basic forest ecology
- Understanding forest crops and applying crop tree release
- Wildlife habitat enhancement
- Sustainable maple sap production
- Optimal Conservation Practices: Attenuating peak flows & designing forest access networks as ecological lines of grace
- Safe, efficient, eco‐friendly tree felling and bucking
- Principals, equipment, and demonstration of firewood forwarding for family forest owners

Presenters include David Brynn, Vermont Family Forests; Lisa Sausville, Vermont Coverts; Mark Isselhardt, UVM Extension Maple specialist; Kristen Underwood, hydrogeologist; and Dave Birdsall, Northeast Woodland Training.
