We’ll be holding a Newbury Democratic Caucus to elect ten Democratic nominees to be our party’s candidates for the position of Justice of the Peace. The meeting is scheduled for next Tuesday, August 9, 7:00 PM, at Tenney Library

JP’s will be elected on November 8 as part of the General Election. Each major party is entitled to nominate JP candidates whose names will appear on the ballot. The number of JP’s in Vermont towns is determined by the population of the town; for Newbury that number is 10.

The role of JP includes helping conduct elections and hearing property tax appeals, as well as officiating at weddings.

Nine or ten people have already indicated an interest in being on the ballot for election as a JP. If you are interested but can’t attend the caucus, please contact either one of us and we’ll make sure to include you for consideration on August 9 to be one of the ten Dem nominees for candidacy in the General Election.

Please note that August 9 is also the date of the statewide primary election. Don’t forget to vote.
