1823 Grammar School to Be Moved with Oxen

The Orleans County Historical Society, which operates the Old Stone House Museum in Brownington, is moving the 1823 Grammar School (Brownington Grange Hall) back up the road to its original site on Monday morning, August 8, starting at 9 a.m.. It was moved 1/3 mile down the road in 1869. Twenty teams of oxen will help pull it up the road. Oxen teamsters are 4-H members from Vermont and New Hampshire, as well as area adults with working teams. Spectators welcome. On Sunday, August 7, there will be a Gathering of Oxen with events and practice for the hitch.
