The Reading Cemetery Commission is very pleased to announce hands-on training on the conservation and maintenance of cemetery monuments and gravestones. Brian Post of Standing Stone Landscape Architecture will be leading these interactive events at Spear Cemetery during the process of actually restoring one of our local cemeteries. The two workshops will teach basic conservation and repair techniques. Learn how to safely clean, level and repair headstones and monuments. The trainings are free and all who attend are welcome to help perform the work, photograph, or simply observe.
WHEN: Sunday, September 11th & Saturday, September 17th.
TIME: 8:30 am - 4:30 pm, although training emphasis will be from 8:30 to Noon both days

Directions to Spear Cemetery: From the Village of Felchville, drive North on Route 106 for 5.3 miles to take right onto Caper Hill Road; travel ~1 mile on Caper Hill Road past Spring Brook Farm to the 4-way intersection; take the right onto Spear Cemetery Road; travel 1.1 miles to find cemetery on your right.
Come prepared: Dress in layers for the weather in clothing you don’t mind getting dirty. Wear sturdy shoes and gloves. Bring an extra shovel if you have one. Other materials will be provided.
