Bio: Christopher Schoelen is an internationally known and award winning classical guitarist currently based in Boston, MA. He is a recent graduate with a Master of Music from the New England Conservatory of Music where he studied with the world-renowned guitarist Eliot Fisk. While attending NEC, he has also been performing and teaching throughout New England, has given master classes for the 2016 Boston Guitar Fest and private students, and has won numerous awards including that of New York's American Protégé competition.
With the guidance of maestro Fisk, Christopher has recorded and produced his debut album titled "Anima - The Music of Italy and Spain for guitar". This project pays tribute to a three yearlong and life-changing adventure he embarked on after completing his undergraduate BA Music degree from Humboldt University.
Between the years of 2011-2014, Christopher made Seville, Spain his home. He enrolled at the Conservatorio Superior de Musica Manuel Castillo, and continued his studies of the classical guitar repertoire under the tutelage of Spanish guitarist, Francisco Bernier. He performed and gave recitals throughout Spain, France, and Italy. While in Europe, he also became fluent in both Spanish and Italian. His love for both the music and the instrument deepened, and in 2014 he returned to the US to pursue his Master’s degree in Performance Guitar.
"Anima," translates as "soul" in Italian. Through his instrument, Christopher expresses both the beauty and passion of the soul and art coming together. Inspired by his personal and deeply influential experiences, his repertoire selection and musical expression reflect a collision of cultures, thousands of memories, and the everlasting friendships he discovered while roaming the Old World. The release of "Anima", scheduled for early August 2016, is a new adventure for Christopher. He is pleased to finally share with the world the music that has touched his heart so deeply.
