Come down to the Market this Friday to help us celebrate Richmond’s newest organic farm! Our featured vendor this week is Stone Beach Farm, which is located in Richmond and received Organic Certification last week! Their objective is to grow food, herbs, and flowers for the local community. Stone Beach Farm grows 20 varieties of tomatoes in a green house and is offering volume pricing for purchases of 15 pounds or more of paste tomatoes. They will have samples of the various tomatoes varieties at the market on Friday, come and learn about different varieties by tasting them! In addition to tomatoes, they will have cabbage, broccoli, bunching onions, yellow and green summer squash, peppers, beets, chard, collards, green beans, fennel bulbs, new potatoes, and fresh cut herbs (cilantro, basil, thyme, oregano) at the market this week. Our other farmers will be bringing many varieties of garlic, seasonal berries, pac choi, kohlrabi, salad turnip, sweet corn and more!
This is a good week to stock up on groceries and start thinking about what to freeze or preserve for the upcoming winter. I know it’s hard to think about that in this heat, but remember two winters ago when we had one of the coldest winters to date? If that happens again you’ll be happy to have some organic canned veggies so you never have to leave the house (except to go skiing, of course)! You can also load up on maple syrup, mustards, ketchup, kimchi and gourmet popping kernels. There will be some things that definitely won’t last until winter, like maple candies, cookies, maple butter fudge, baklava, breads, burger buns, figs, eggs, pork, chicken and lamb sausage.
If you’re looking to eat dinner at the market, you have your choice of spicy tamales, tacos and burritos, or grab a delicious savory meat or veggie pie. If you just want a snack, we’ll have soft pretzels and different flavors of artisan popcorn. For drinks, you’ll find maple soda and seltzer and nitro cold-brew coffee.
Don’t forget to stop by our Youth Booth vendor this week, he will be bringing homegrown squash and homemade cakes! We’ll also have a guest vendor, Friday Evening Flowers, who will be bringing their amazing paper flower creations. They’ll have examples of wedding bouquets and paper flower hair ornaments, stop by their stand to jazz up your hair style or start planning for the big day!
For entertainment this week the face painting stand will return to occupy the kids while you enjoy your dinner or get a relaxing chair massage! No music this week, but check our website on Friday in case that changes, or if you’d like to play let us know!!
