Organic Farming for the Planet
In her new book, Organic Revolutionary: A Memoir of the Movement for Real Food, Planetary Healing, and Human Liberation, Grace Gershuny argues for encouraging as many farmers as possible to convert to organic methods as quickly as possible as the most immediate route to reversing the increase in greenhouse gas emissions that now endangers communities everywhere. The food system contributes an estimated one-third of global greenhouse gas emissions, and can be part of the solution. Grace will explain how organic farming can contribute to reversing climate change, along with a host of other benefits to the environment and human health. Books will be available for purchase.
Bio: Grace Gershuny is a Vermont-based organic pioneer, educator and consultant who helped develop the USDA’s regulations for organic agriculture. She has written extensively about soil and compost, and currently teaches in the Green Mountain College on-line MS program in Sustainable Food Systems.
