Public Hearings on the Budget -- the People's Budget - Oct. 23 and Nov. 5

Past event
Oct 23, 2013, 5:30 to 7:30 PM

Last year the administration held public hearings on the state's budget which were designed to give Vermonters a chance to share their priorities as the budget was being developed. The purpose is to get more discussion about the budget, and ultimately more accountability. And to do it earlier in the process.

As last year's legislation states, the budget should "address the needs of the people of Vermont in a way that advances human dignity and equity."

This initiative only works if citizens participate. If you agree with the priorities represented in the current budget, or if you disagree, this is the time to make your voice heard. Policy makers need to hear your thoughts about education, health, shelter, employment, care for the vulnerable, preservation of the environment, economic development, the justice system -- any of the many areas where tax dollars are spent and the needs of communities and individuals may be met.

The two public hearings on the budget will take place on Wed. Oct. 23 and Tues. Nov. 5 at interactive television sites around the state:

Wed. Oct. 23, 5:30 - 7:30 PM at sites in Brattleboro, Johnson, Lyndonville, Middlebury, White River Junction, Williston and Montpelier

Tues. Nov. 5, 2:50 PM - 4:45 PM at sites in Bennington, Brattleboro, Johnson, Lyndonville, Middlebury, Rutland, Springfield, St. Albans, White River Junction, Montpelier and Newport.

VtDigger had a story on the people's budget a few weeks ago. http://vtdigger.org/2013/09/17/putting-the-peoples-budget-into-practice/

And finally, if you're able to come to Adamant on Saturday, October 19, Tony Klein and I will be there from 10-11 to discuss and learn about your budget priorities.
