On Sunday, July 24, 2016 at 4:00 pm, the 18th Annual Calais Concert will be held at the Old West Church in Calais, Vermont.
This year’s concert will feature Last Night's Rain from Northumberland, England. The Oxnard sisters Jane on fiddle, and Ailsa on guitar, play traditional and contemporary folk music from the UK and the USA. Both of them were members of two folk ensembles, the Sage Gateshead's Folkestra and the Northumbrian Ranters, made up of talented young traditional musicians from schools across Northumberland. Their goal is to promote and raise the profile of traditional music both in the county and further afield. In 2012 Jane and Aisla traveled to Burlington, VT with Northumbrian Ranters and two years later the Ranters hosted the Young Tradition Vermont Touring Group in England. The young duo has had the opportunity to meet and perform with musicians from around the world, which along with the strong Scottish tradition of the Border counties, has heavily influenced their fiddle and guitar playing style.
Pete Sutherland, Oliver Scanlon, Vermont Symphony Orchestra cellist John Dunlop, and violinist/fiddler Laura Markowitz will round out the line-up for an afternoon of memorable music making.
General admission at the door: $15. For more info call 802-233-1015 or visit www.debflanders.net
