Understanding Your Dog for More Effective Training.
Emily Lewis & her tri-pawed rescue pal, Fisher, will be the featured presenters on Saturday, July 16, at 10:30 AM in the Otter Creek Room in the lower level of the Bixby Library on Main Street in Vergennes.
For 15 years, Emily Lewis has been a professional dog trainer and veterinary technician.
While Emily was volunteering at the North Country SPCA January 2015, a long-eared, five month-old beagle mix was brought in with terrible injuries that necessitated the amputation of his left front leg. His left hip was also broken. Eventually named Fisher by Emily, he snookered her into adopting him. Emily will share her wisdom as a dog trainer & her experience as a “mom” to a special needs dog. Fisher and Emily are now an official therapy dog team. A member of the Pet Pgorofessional Guild, Emily specializes in science based force-free training and pet care. She offers her services to individuals and their unique dogs through her business, A Click Away. Employed at Comfort Hill Kennel in Vergennes, Emily provides group AKC Canine Good Citizen, obedience, agility & rally classes, and day training services. Emily is a swim coach utilizing the large pool at Comfort Hill Kennel for hydrotherapy. As for humans, water therapy provides low impact, non-weight bearing exercise for recovery from surgery or injury as well as relief from arthritic impairment. This presentation is FREE and sponsored by the Friends of the Bixby
Pets Preferred Used Book Sale (10 AM-1:30 PM) in the Otter Creek Room will offer FREE BOOKS referencing pets in the title (limit of 2 per person) to customers shopping at the book sale.
