The Fyre and Lightening Consort are making a rare local appearance at St.Andrew's Episcopal Church (Main Street, St.Johnsbury) on Sunday, July 10 at 3pm. The program features Ellis Hayes (vocals, recorders, whistle and vielle), Kathy Light (vocals, recorders and harp), and Steven Light (recorders, bagpipes, lute and string bass). Included on the program will be Cantigas de Santa Maria (Songs of the Virgin Mary) and music of the Sephardic Jews from Spain as well as songs, dances and polyphony from 12-15th century France. The performance will end with traditional music from Ireland, Scotland and England, including several 17th century compositions by the blind harpist Turlough O'Carolan.

Fyre and Lightning endeavors to present this fascinating music in an informal and accessible style. The music and instruments will be described and audience members are invited to ask questions and try out instruments after the concert. The musical program can be hauntingly beautiful, robustly dance-like, meditative and just pure fun!
