Hello to my Huntington Community!

I am writing with a shameless ask to join the membership of the Peace & Justice Center. I have worked for this state-wide organization for about 5 years in several capacities. Also you may know it because my mom (Guthrie) has been a very long time supporter, and my sister Tiffany was on the board a long time ago. Also I always love to host events in Huntington. In general we work to address systems of oppression through education, action, and advocacy.

Recently I have been really inspired by our racial justice workshops throughout the state. These are designed to motivate and support individuals to actively participate in undoing racism in an ongoing way. Because we are in Vermont we have a focus on understanding how whiteness, white cultural and white fragility fits into doing racial justice work. These programs have been full each time we run them and include folks from many different backgrounds and communities who are able to use the what is explored in the space in different ways within their community and self.

I have a personal goal to recruit 10 new members (so far two friends have joined), I obviously would love more then ten people sign-up through my efforts but that is the basic goal I have set for myself for this membership drive (which lasts until July 15th). During this time we have a $5,000 matching donation that will double the membership contributions of new members, so that is pretty exciting. Even if you decide not to contribute please do check out our ongoing work and attend programs put on in communities throughout the state. For example we have a screening coming up August 3rd at Big Picture that I hope Huntingtonians will attend. If you are already a member, now is a great time to convince others to join, remember all new member contributions are matched through July 14th.

Many members contribute $35/year which adds up to a large portion of the budget, but we need the number of people who are contributing to build.
