Sponsored by St. Stephen's Church, Peasant Market at the Green in Middlebury is the place to be on July 9 from 9am-2pm. This annual event has become a lively tradition in Addison County, one which tourists and locals plan to attend. This year will bring more smiles and bargains with these highlights: Midway with crafts and games; Silent Auction featuring a circa 1940s Middlebury College Winter Carnival poster, lots of nice, outdoor garden furniture, and a 1970s wedding gown in beautiful condition among many other really special items; White Elephants for great bargains on both useful and highly whimsical hand-me-downs as well as a Re-Gifting table; mounds of very nice quilt fabrics; an Antiques booth is bursting this year with a pair of Vintage Mexican Feather art bird pictures in hand carved frames, a very nicely hand painted box, a reproduction hand embroidered table runner made by the Greek Women's Institute in Athens in the style of Byzantine Greek embroidery, a cloth doll c1920-1930 with a hand painted face, and a nicely handmade vintage quilt; Vintage used clothing for all ages; well-organized Books section; Kids’ booth with toys, books, clothes, and baby equipment; homemade fruit pies, sporting goods and tools, garden booth with plants and accessories… St. Stephen’s thanks all the people who have generously donated so many items, and we’ve cleaned, sorted, and priced these to go.

As in several recent years, we are raffling off an elegant handbuilt kayak with a matching handcrafted paddle. Tickets for the Wee Lassie are $10 each or 6 for $50 and can be purchased at St. Stephen’s, on our website, or during Peasant Market.

All the profits raised at Peasant Market go right back into the community. Funds from 2015 were granted to fourteen local non-profits including H.O.P.E, Middlebury Teen Center, Charter House Coalition, Community Suppers, John Graham Shelter.
