DESCRIPTION: The Morrill Homestead’s annual Gallery in the Garden art show and silent auction has become a touchstone summer experience for many art lovers, featuring the works of fine artists from the Strafford community, the Upper Valley and beyond. Artists express their unique visions through works created in a variety of media and styles, from classical to abstract and from intimate settings to grand perspectives. Reception for the art show opening begins at 5:00pm with a silent auction of “Minis for Morrill” to follow—magnificent mini paintings by artists of regional and national reputation.

New for this year! The event will be preceded at 4:00pm by first-ever guided tours of the historic artwork hanging in the Justin Morrill Homestead, including original paintings by Constantino Brumidi (“America’s Michelangelo”), an exquisite 1867 enameled glass window from France and an Italian oil painting that was donated to Morrill by George Perkins Marsh. Brumidi's striking and recently restored portrait of Justin Morrill will be displayed at the Homestead for the first time, due to the generosity of the Morrill Memorial and Harris Library!

The art show reception will feature hors d’oeuvres and live music by Samantha Moffatt. “Sam” is a multi-instrumentalist and singer who has performed across the U.S, and in Europe with small ensembles, and was twice a guest on "A Prairie Home Companion".
