Pumpkins, Parsnips, Potatoes, and…Violets: Tales of Early American Vegetables, Becky Rupp
What grew – or didn’t grow – in early American gardens? Why or why not? Rebecca Rupp, author of How Carrots Won the Trojan War, will discuss the ups and downs of our ancestors’ garden choices – among them the under-appreciated turnip, now Vermont’s official state vegetable.
Rebecca Rupp, Ph.D., author of nearly two dozen books for both children and adults, has written two books and dozens of magazine articles on the history and science of vegetables. Her most recent publication on the topic is How Carrots Won the Trojan War (Storey, 2012), winner of the Garden Writers’ Association Gold Award.
Admission to the talk is free.
