There will be a special meeting of the Northfield Selectboard Tuesday June 21 at 7 p.m. (warned June 20) regarding tree removal in the rights of way of town roads. A company has arranged with the town road supervisor to cut and chip trees and other vegetation along rights of way (25' horizontally, out from the center line of all Town roads, which may be a greater surface distance depending on the slope of the land) in return for the chips. As of today no contract has been signed, according to the information available, and the work is on hold pending finalization of the documentation. However, the work has begun in some areas, including Little Northfield Road. The road supervisor has spoken with some landowners regarding the proposed work, but there are a number of questions unanswered, and there may be additional information available at this special meeting. The public is encouraged to attend, to learn about this program.
