East meets west! Well…mid-west. Choral singers from two regions joins forces when Burlington’s Lively Band of Singers, Social Band, hosts the Monteverdi Chorale from Steven’s Point, Wisconsin.
While the two groups are separated geographically, the themes that pervade the programming of the two groups are a perfect match. The Monteverdi Chorale, led by James A. Carpenter, will be sharing songs from their recent program “Human/ Nature – Songs for a Small Planet,” exploring how we relate to nature and to each other. Selections include works by Felix Mendelssohn, Samuel Barber and Joan Szymko's setting of Wendell Berry's "The Peace of Wild Things".
Social Band, always ready to sing about nature and relationships, will bring its characteristic “joie de vivre” to our lusty repertoire of Vermont-composed music, with a cast of characters including the moon, stars, lovers, insomniacs, swimmers and diggers.
Help us sing in summer by joining us for a celebration of the human voice, thoughtfully programmed so as not to keep you out too late on a school night.
