MOVIE "The Church That LIVES" to premier in Canaan on Father's Day

For over 140 years a New England church congregation in the far corner of northeastern Vermont has struggled to survive yet has always done so due to the dedication and backbones of the entire surrounding community. Last week, Canaan's Grace Community Church, Inc. was recognized at the Vermont state Historic Preservation & Downtown Conference as "The Church That Lives". The award recognized not only the magnificent restoration of the physical church structure by Steeplekeepers.com of Littleton, NH but also the entire Canaan/Stewartstown community by changing the purpose from being a traditional denominational church to a federal not-for-profit community service organization that also houses the new and independent Grace Community Church.

The award recognized several of the community partners such as Indian Stream Health Center, Northeast Kingdom Community Action, AlAnon, the North Country Community Chorus, the Vermont Department of Health and the Town of Canaan as being partners vital to the vibrancy of this community center.

The Preservation Trust of Vermont commissioned a moving film that documents the decade long process that 5 community members embarked on that has resulted in the very active and growing physical and spiritual heart & soul of Canaan.

The entire community is invited to a free viewing of this moving and inspirational film entitled, "The Church That Lives" at noon on Sunday June 19th, Father's Day. A reception with great food & beverages will follow the movie screening.
