A Plymouth Tradition - a Community Celebration

The Plymouth Strawberry Festival has become a tradition that not only Plymouth residents enjoy but friends from far and wide come to attend. Meet your 'old' friends, enjoy the sweet goodies of the season, start off the summer, enjoy the talents of local musicians and artists (face painters), relax in our beautiful state park, check out some of the great equipment and personnel that help make our community safe (fire, ambulance, sheriff), enjoy a great BBQ picnic and those sweet goodies! Tyson Ladies Aid homemade short cake piled high with fresh sliced strawberries, ice cream and whipped cream is the calling card for this great festival. A superb BBQ is put on by the Plymouth Emergency Services crew with fare ranging from hamburgers/cheeseburgers, hot dogs, veggie burgers and wonderful sides of beans, slaw, pasta and potato salads are all on the menu. Whew! And to further entice those with a twinkle in their eye is the Tyson Church raffle that has lots of wonderful donated items that will beg you to buy more and more tickets!

But most of you know all this since it is a Plymouth tradition, started by the parents of children going to the Plymouth Elementary School. Although our school has been repurposed the wonderful folk from the Plymouth Emergency Services, the Tyson Church and the Tyson Ladies Aid took this function over to help maintain a sense of community while also giving back to the community in many ways. The Emergency Services respond to 911 calls, both fire and medical as well as hold CPR classes. The Church co sponsors the Reach Out luncheons and help provide other community needs. And the Tyson Ladies Aid not only co sponsor the Reach Out Luncheons but runs the historic Tyson Library (check out the great array of books!), provides scholarships to local high school students graduatingfrom both Black River High School and Woodstock High School and they help provide support to those in need. All three organizations are also donating to a scholarship fund for a local child to attend camp at Bethany Birches.

So when does this all happen? Wednesday, June 22 at Camp Plymouth State Park starting at 5:00 and going until sunset. Admission is free...just mention that you are attending the Strawberry Festival! Join your friends and neighbors in this fun event! For more information contact Sue Poirier at spcolby@gmail.com.
