2005 was the last time Jericho went through a Town-Wide Reappraisal. We should be learning the results of the 2016 reappraisal very soon. Property owners will receive a change of appraisal notice by mail, along with instructions of what to do if you have questions about the tax assessment. The first step is to meet with the listers. This is called "Grievance Hearings" Those taxpayers that want to appeal their tax assessed value will first "grieve" with the listers, if they don't come to agreement, they can appeal to the Board of Civil Authority (BCA). The Jericho Board of Civil Authority is made up of the 12 elected Justices of the Peace, the 3 elected Select Board members and the elected Town Clerk. About half of the current members of the BCA were on the board during the Town Wide Re-appraisal in 2005. In order to prepare for Tax Appeals, the BCA members will be attending a tax appeal workshop at the Jericho Town Hall at 6PM on Tuesday June 7th. All BCA meetings are open to the public.
