Birding at Eagle Point

Join the Friends of Missisquoi NWR along with the Memphremagog
Watershed Association for a morning of birding and exploration at the Eagle
Point Unit. This walk will be led by Ken Copenhaver and Julie Filiberti.

Eagle Point, a 420 acre tract of property on the
shore of Lake Memphramegog near the town of
Newport, became part of the Missisquoi NWR in
2010. The Eagle Point property consists of a mix
of upland and wetland habitats including northern
hardwood forest, hemlock seepage forest,
managed grassland, and a diverse wetland complex formed around Hall’s
Creek.
Note: there are no facilities on the property.
Directions
• From East Main Street in Newport (VT5) turn left on Sias Avenue
(heading north) - .6miles
• Sias Avenue turns into Darling Hill Road – 1.6mi
• Continue straight on North Derby Road – 2.1mi
• At the end, make a left Eagle Point Farm Road (T-17) and follow to
Eagle Point WMA – 1.4 mi
Carpooling from points west
Those interested in carpooling have the following options:
Meet at 6:00am at the St. Albans Park and Ride
Meet at 6:30am at the Enosburg Park and Ride
We are planning an optional afternoon of birding in the NEK for those
interested in making a full day of the trip.
