Here's a weekend activity for those of us curious about what's growing wild that shouldn't! Elizabeth is a great workshop leader; I learned a lot at the last one.
At the Birds of Vermont Museum on Sherman Hollow, on Saturday, June 4:
MAPPING INVASIVES FOR HEALTHY FORESTS: Becoming a Citizen Scientist Saturday, June 4 • 10am - 2pm
Invasion of the plants! Hmmm... just doesn't sound scary does it? But it's absolutely serious.
Let Elizabeth Spinney, Invasive Plant Coordinator for VT Parks & Rec, teach us which plants are encroaching on our forests and what we can do about it.
In this workshop you will * Learn to map invasive species * Develop hands-on skills with iNaturalist, a free citizen science / environmental observation app * Leave confident in your abilities and ready to take action
Your work matters! Each of our observations—today in the workshop, and later on your own—helps build a scientifically smart state plan —and more!
All welcome! We will be both indoors and out. Pre-registration helps us provide enough materials for each workshop. Call(802) 434-2167 or email museum@birdsofvermont.org Please install the iNaturalist app on your mobile device (or bring a friend with one) before the workshop; call us with your questions.
Free!
This is a follow-on to last fall's part one (Invasive Plant ID), but you do not need to have attended the first to enjoy and learn in the second.
Workshop Part III, "Mapping for Health Forests" will be scheduled later this year.
