Carolyn Guest grew up on an end of the road Vermont farm. Cutting paper for entertainment and pattern making were among her many pastimes. As a young adult she learned about the "art" of paper cutting in Poland as an student with the International 4-H Youth Exchange Program. This has taken her back to Poland and to many other places to study with paper cutters and other folk artists. She uses paper cutting to tell stories she has heard, relay experiences and to illustrate her Vermont heritage. Her primary cutting tool is her 13.5" sheep sheers. Se has chosen to cut with sheep shears in tribute to her Polish teachers and those who had only sheep shears to cut out "Wycinanki", the Polish word for paper design.
