This event is offered in conjunction with the Sheldon's current exhibit "Addison County in Profile: Silhouettes from the Sheldon Archives"

Carolyn Guest grew up on an end of the road Vermont farm. Cutting paper for entertainment and pattern making were one of her many pastimes. As a young adult she learned about the “art” of papercutting in Poland as an exchange student with International 4-H Youth Exchange program. This has taken her back to Poland and many other places to further study with paper cutters and other Folk Artists. She uses paper cutting to retell experiences, stories she has heard and illustrate her rural Vermont heritage. Her primary cutting tool is her 13.5” sheep shears. She has chosen to cut with sheep shearing shears in tribute to her Polish teachers and those who only had sheep shears to cutout “Wycinanki.”

Please call (802) 388-2117 for more information. The Sheldon Museum is located at One Park Street, Middlebury.
