5:00 pm - Friday June 3, 2016 Newport City

Many thriving cities and towns host a monthly event, organized by citizens, restaurant owners, galleries, stores, non-profit agencies, community groups etc. The events can be cultural, community building, informational, social and plain fun. Or a combination of all!

The purpose is to bring "traffic" downtown and in our case, to build Main and other streets! And to bring back our sense of community. We, who live here, should be able to enjoy our downtown as well as inviting others to share it! Lots of changes happening in Newport - let's include everyone!

Our goal for this project is pretty straight-forward - that we all participate, as much or as little as we are able, businesses, citizens and organizations.

First Friday Newport is going to be a monthly event, held on the 1st Friday of each month. The next few dates are 6/3/16, 7/1/16, 8/5/16, 9/2/16 and 10/7/16. Re-evaluating in the fall!

It will be what we make it! So far restaurants - East Side, Le Belvedere, Ciderhouse Bar and Grille, Lago's, Newport Natural Foods and several stores are participants. Tim and Doug's Ice Cream and Pick & Shovel are enthusiastic! What are they going to do? That is up to individuals - maybe a special deal on a dish, maybe music, maybe a cool sundae, Endless possibilities.

It would be great if:

Non-profits tabled and shared information and promoted other events
Dance groups danced at the Fish or anywhere else. Gardner Park is so close .....
People sang and played on the street
Strolling troubadors and minstrels
Street art
Pop-up art
Galleries opened
Kid Friendly options
Craft options
Community action - plant flower seeds, vegetables
Bring your own ideas and energy. As a well-known Corporation says Just Do It!

We would like everyone to know about First Friday Newport and to participate. Please forward and encourage others to join in!

This is a community lead effort. We are being encouraged by AARP who is committed to helping us keep Newport on the map as a Livable City!!

Thank you. Our Town Slow Down, Newport!
