2016 marks the 270th anniversary of the siege of Fort Massachusetts. In the 1740’s the area that is now North Adams was the western frontier of Massachusetts. A frontier outpost was constructed in East Hoosuck (now North Adams), one of a line of forts stretching across northern Massachusetts. The fort was besieged by the French and Indians during King George’s War; it was burned to the ground, and the prisoners were marched off to Canada.

Local historian Paul Marino is a virtual “walking encyclopedia” of local history. He will share facts about the fort and its siege. He is especially eager to engage with children, saying “local history is interesting to adults, but essential for children.” Bring your children to this informative and engaging talk about a dramatic time in local history.
