Leaf Peepers Race, Sunday at 11 Am
The Leaf Peepers Half Marathon and 5K Race, now in its 30th year, has a new course. Here are the following road closures as approved by the Waterbury Select Board and Village Trustees:
• The northbound lane of Guptil Road and Maple Street from Route 100 to Guild Hill Road from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm. Also the short stretch of Howard Avenue from Hollow Road to Maple Street will be closed. Southbound travel will be open on Guptil and Maple all day. If you need to access a location on Guptil and Maple during the time of the northbound lane closure, you will have to approach it by traveling south. Route 100 can be used for northbound travel with access to Guptil at Howard, and Maple at Guild Hill.
• Perry Hill Road from its beginning at Lincoln Street to Dave Culvers Road, 11:00 am to 11:40.
• Railroad Street from Hill Street to Pilgrim 5 from 11:00 am to 11:45.
• The Stowe Street Bridge at Route 100 will also be closed 11:00 am to 11:45.
During the Leaf Peepers 30 years, Central Vermont Runners has given back to the community for their cooperation. Notably, they've contributed somewhat over $100,000 to the Harwood Union Boosters Club for sports programs and scholarships, as well as contributions to the Fire Department and Ambulance Service.
Last year, 81 Waterbury residents ran in the Leaf Peepers. Please get out and cheer on your friends and other runners – ranging in age from 8 to 80 – on race day!
