About Shelburne Pond Studios:
There’s a vibrant and supportive artists’ community and outdoor sculpture exhibit located on a farm and in a renovated dairy barn just across the road (Pond Road) from Shelburne Pond in Shelburne. When owners Katharine Stockman and Rad Romeyn bought the property in 2004 the barn had been sitting vacant for several years, except for hay in the loft and an antique tractor. The community started in 2010 when the owners began taking out the cow stalls one by one and replacing them with walls and doors, using recycled materials wherever possible. The first artists moved into their new studio spaces within several months of the beginning of construction. There are now 11 artists’ studios and 14 artists in the barn and a stone carving studio across the barnyard. The 14 artists in situ work in a variety of artist’s mediums; stone, glass, silk-screen, fiber, oil paint, acrylic, encaustic, wood, pencil, charcoal, metal and more. Twenty large sculptures adorn the 12 acre property. All are for sale, are a variety of sizes and are in stone, steel, aluminum, and mixed media.
About Some Participating Artists:
Katharine Stockman
“I simply carve whatever inspires me at the time, with ideas taken from dreams, photos, nature, humor and the stone.”
Stephanie Bush
Stephanie Bush is represented by West Branch Gallery and Sculpture Park in Stowe, Vermont. Bush’s latest oil paintings feature local cows.
Cheryl Summa
Wild Blossom Designs combines the traditional techniques of flower pressing and encaustic painting to create a botanical product line that illuminates the details of nature.
24th Spring Vermont Crafts Council Open Studio Weekend:
It must be Open Studio Weekend when bright yellow signs appear along Vermont's roads over Memorial Day weekend, guiding visitors to studios of craftspeople and fine artists across Vermont during the 2016 Open Studio Tour on May 28 and 29.
Open Studio Weekend is a statewide celebration of the visual arts and creative process, offering a unique opportunity for visitors to meet a wide variety of artists and craftspeople in their studios, some of which are only open to the public during this event.
The self-guided Open Studio tour features the work of glassblowers, jewelers, printmakers, potters, furniture makers, weavers, iron workers, painters, sculptors, quilt makers and wood carvers. Many galleries will host gallery talks and feature special exhibits in conjunction with this event.
The Vermont Crafts Council publishes a free map booklet with directions to participating sites. The Vermont Open Studio Guide is available throughout the state at Tourist Information Centers, galleries and studios. It also available on the VCC website - http://www.vermontcrafts.com. or by calling 802-223-3380.
